Pop Up Business Cards

Hi There!

I’m headed to Disney Social Media Moms Celebration – On the Road Portland aka #DisneySMMC in just a few days, and I’m super excited about it!  You can read all about my Seattle adventures 2 years ago here.  But, there was one thing..  I needed new business cards!  I starting researching, and sure I could have had some cheap ones made, but they’d be forgotten 2 seconds after someone received it.  So, I started brainstorming creative business cards that I could make myself.  I quickly decided a pop-up business card would be a really fun way to stand out from the crowd.  Now, I’m a little embarrassed at how much time I actually spent trying to make this work. A pop-up business card is by no means an easy thing to make.  There were at least 40 failed prototypes, and each card takes a ridiculous amount of time to assemble.  But I was persistent!

Now, how did I make such an epic business card?!

Well, it took an extreme amount of time, and some creative tools, like my Brother ScanNCut and Adobe Creative Suite.  Maybe I should also add that I have a degree in fine art..  Finally, I get to use it!  Ha! 🙂

First thing, I created the structure of the business card in Adobe Illustrator. This was then transferred into the Brother’s proprietary software, ScanNCut Canvas. After all the adjustments and conversions were made, I transferred a cutting file to the ScanNCut via USB.

From here, I took the original Illustrator document into Photoshop and designed all the graphic elements.

I have a really low-end printer, and unfortunately this showed, so I then sent the graphics to a professional printer.

Once I had the prints back, I could start cutting!

Each print is attached to a cutting mat.  The mats are sticky, but they quickly get un-stuck.  So, I use painter’s tape to attach the prints.  This works well without having to try to tacky the mat again.

It’s loaded, and it’s time to start cutting!

Each print requires 2 passes.

Once everything is done, it looks a bit like this-

And Bam!

Awesome business card!
